Randy (Spook) Spivey of Dublin-Laurens County Recreation Authority was installed as 2019 President of Georgia Recreation and Parks Association in the GRPA State Convention in Jekyll Island, Ga. on Wednesday, Nov. 7th, 2018. This is quite an honor as named from the approximately 2000 member organization with 200 County/City Recreation Agencies in the State of Georgia.
Spivey has twenty-six years experince serving as a recreation professional. He has served as DLCRA Athletic Superintendent from July 1999 to present. Prior to this position Spivey served as Athletic Supervior Dublin Parks and Recreation October 1992 – July 1999.
Spivey's athletic program responsibilities includes athletic budgeting, of a Consolidated County-City Recreation Authority serving a community of approximately 50,000 people, including, soccer, football and baseball and assisting in special events. In Addition, Spivey has been quite active in Emerald City Officials Association serving as Member of Emerald City Officials Association 1986-Present, Served as President of Emerald City for 4 terms, Georgia High School Association Official 1986-Present and a graduate of Dublin-Laurens Leadership.
Spivey has been a member of Georgia Recreation and Park Association 1992 – Present, Member of National Recreation and Park Association 1999-Present, Graduate of Leadership GRPA, Certified Youth Sports Administrator, Served as GRPA District One Commissioner,
Member of Georgia Recreation and Park Board of Trustees for 11 years and member of Georgia Recreation and Park Executive Board 3 years (2 remaining). Member of Georgia Recreation and Park State Athletic Committee 24 years and Served as Chair of State Athletic Committee 5 times. He served as Coordinator of Exhibit Hall for Georgia Recreation Conference, Received the First District Leadership Award in 2003, Received Distinguished Professional Award for Athletic Network 2005 and 2015, Received Presidential Citations in 2008 and 2011,
Received Distinguished Professional Award GRPA First District 2009 and Received Mike Daniel Award from Georgia Recreation and Park Association 2013.
In the "Spook" Spivey family, public recreation is caught .... not taught. Attending the installation banquet, were his proud children, Eason Spivey, now Youth Athletic Program Coordinator in Gainesville, Ga. and Laura Spivey, Athletic Coordinator in City of Cumming Recreation Dept., Kaitlin Spivey, student at College of Coastal Georgia and his wife Dina were also there to show their support for a dedicated father, sports enthusiast, and leader in field of Recreation. The Spivey offspring are West Laurens Graduates, all strong in athletics supported by a dedicated Dad.
Randy is the son of Billy Spivey and the late Eunice Spivey of East Dublin.
